FAT SHEEP AND LAMBS

PRICES OF ENGLISH PRODUCT. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. "New Zealand’s supplies of mutton and lamb to the United Kingdom market are always determined after consultation and agreement with the United Kingdom Government,” said the Minister of Marketing, Hon W. Nash, when referring in an interview last evening to the cable message from London concerning prices of English fat sheep and lambs. “The amount sent forward this year was agreed upon in discussions last year in LonNew Zealand’s representatives in London had discussed future prospects in the trade,” added Mr Nash. “The figures show that what has been happening' has been an increase in the supplies of home-killed mutton and this has had its effect on the price of home-killed.

“The amount of frozen mutton and lamb in stock was much less, than a year ago. and. the prices of New Zealand mutton and lamb were quite sat-

. isfactory. evert showing a rising tendency as compared with a year ago. These two factors are a definite indication that it is not mutton and lamb from New Zealand that was affecting the prices, of the English product. which has a different section of demand.” ..

In a cable message from London it was stated yesterday: “In the House of Commons, Mr W. G. Morrison, Minister of Agriculture, admitting that prices of fat sheep and lambs were below those in recent years, though marketings were not abnormal, said he was consulting the representatives of the Australian and New Zealand Governments regarding supplies from those Dominions in the current year. Foreign supplies were already limited in accordance with the Ottawa Agreement. Lieutenant-Colonel G. J. Ac-land-Troyte (Conservative) asked Mr Morrison whether, in view of the im-' portance of the English market, he would hasten his consultation. Mr Morrison promised that there would be no delay.”
