DOUBLE PLANE
SUCCESSFUL AIR MINISTRY TEST. SEPARATION AT 3,000 FEET. LONDON, May 10. The Maia and Mercury aeroplanes, one of which takes off from the other in mid-air, separated successfully at an altitude of 3,000 feet, during an Air Ministry test. The Mercury, which was carrying a full Atlantic load of 20,500 lbs., jettisoned 900 gallons of petrol, which would largely be consumed in a trans-Atlantic flight before alighting.
