BUILDING SOCIETY (“Times-Age” Special.) The'annual report of the directors of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society states: —In presenting the thir-ty-third annual report and balance sheet of the No. 1 Group, and the twelfth annual report and balance sheet of the No. 2 Group, we desire to congratulate Shareholders on the continued progress of the Society. The No. 1 Group is now in its last stages, as only a balance of £l7 Os 4d in loans remained unpaid at balance date, and this sum has been reduced since. Additional profits have been paid out during the years, .the aggregate sums distributed amounting to no less than £3199 Us 4d, which has been divided among the holders of 103 shares. In, the No. 2 Group the Profit and Loss Account has increased during the year from £8959 17s lOd to £9675 16s 8d; quite a substantial gain for the period. A total of £6600 was appropriated during the year, being £l2OO more than last year, and with the continued loyal support of shareholders the affairs of the society in the future can be regarded with the utmost confidence.

SUGGESTED ROAD DEVIATION. Mr F. C. Daniell, Masterton, forwarded to the meeting of the Wairarapa Automobille Association .copies of the correspondence with the Main Highways Board respecting the length of road between Eketahuna and Kaiparoro. Mr Daniell had suggested a deviation in the road to shorten the distance and improve the conditions. The Highways Board had considered the matter and had made an estimate of the costs of the proposed improvements. The road would be shortened by 60 chains, but the cost would be £40,000. —The correspondence was laid on the table. SWIMMING CLUB. At the annual dance of the Carterton Swimming Club the trophies for the season were presented as follows: — Mr G. W. Busby’s Cup for junior boys.—Q. Desmond. Parton Cup for aggregate points.—G. Thompson. Intermediate Cup donated by Messrs E. McKenzie, A. Deller and R. Crawley. —G. Thompson. Cup for men’s dive. — I. Bond. Les. Sorenson Cup for 220 and 440 yards—A. Pinfold. Cup for ladies’ Dive.—Miss D. Crawley. Cup for Wairarapa 50 yards’ Championship, donated by Mr R. P. Wakelin. —J. Barnes. Inter-club Cup, for three distances. —J: Lawrence; Cup for 100 yards club championship.—R. Lawrence. Cassidy Cup, junior girls’ challenge cup donated by Mr Busby, and the Wellington Centre’s medal for the Wellington Provincial 50 yards’ championship.—Miss H. Callender. BUILDING SOCIETY. In accordance with the rules, Messrs L. J. Fairbrother,- H. M. B. Trapp and C. Reid, retire, all of whom, being eligible, offer themselves for re-elec-tion. Mr J. W. Card has resigned and another director must be elected to replace him. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr Fenton Wilson, of Johnsonville, is on a visit to Carterton. At the Automobile Association meeting Mr R. W. Roydhouse referred to the marriage of Mr D. L. Taverner. On behalf of his colleagues he wished Mr and Mrs Taverner a long and happy life. Mr Taverner suitably replied.
