WEDDING

PERCY-WEST A. wedding of considerable local interest was celebrated at St Matthew’s Church, Masterton, on April 30, when Cecilia Augustia Ann, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. W. West, of Te Ore Ore was married to Keith Joseph, fifth son of the late Mr Frank Percy and Mrs Stratford of Te Ore Ore. The ceremony was performed by the Rev E. J. Rich. The bride who entered the church escorted by her father, wore a trained gown of parchment satin, designed on slim lines. The soft, shirred neckline, cut to form a cowl, was accentuated by a small spray some tones deeper than the gown. Rows of tiny self-covered buttons finished the sleeves,, and the back of the bridal gown. A creamy net, embroidered veil was worn, and fell from a halo of shaded blossom to tone with that at the neckline of the gown. The bride carried a shower bouquet of cream chrysanthemums and soft pink carnations, with maidenhear fern. The chief bridesmaid (Miss Thelma Savage, a cousin of the bride) wore a gown of shimmer satin in a lovely shade of dull rose, with twin shoulder sprays in rose and silver. The full skirt was finished with the tiniest of silver ribbon bows. A dull silver sash was worn falling almost to the hemline. The other two bridesmaids, Miss Nina West (the bride’s younger sister), and Miss Nan Verry (a friend from New Plymouth) wore identical frocks, and dainty halos of rose flowers, with silver leaves. Their Victorian posies were of nerines, carnations and maidenhair fern in shades of pink to tone. Three flower girls in dainty oldworld frocks of soft blue organda completed a charming colour scheme. Miss Irish West, the bride’s youngest sister, wore her frock ankle length with frilled panels from the knee. A deep frill formed the sleeve and was finished with sweet bows of pink and blue for-get-me-nots, tied with black velvet ribbon. The corsage laced with narrow ribbon and a velvet ribbon bow completed the old-world effect. The two little girls, Shirley Mackley, the bridegroom’s niece, and Edna Wallis, a little friend of the bride, wore similar frocks, with very short, frilly skirts. Tiny halos of pink and blue forget-me-nots were chosen and all three flower-girls carried charming little Victorian posies. The groom was attended by Mr Ken Marshall (a friend of the family), as best man, and Mr Roddy Percy, and Mr lan Morris, as groomsmen.

After the ceremony a reception was held in the Cosy Tea Rooms, where Mrs West and Mrs Stratford received the many guests. Mrs West wore a model frock of navy charmeuse with a wafst-length coatee. The novel collar was of white shark-skin, and a spray of carnations in deep tones with maidenhair fern, was a pleasing contrast at the neckline. The black tailored costume chosen by Mrs Stratford was worn with a dusky pink crepe de chene blouse. Her hat of peach bloom velour, and accessories, were in black. Mrs Stratford also favoured a spray at the neckline. Before Mr and Mrs K. J. Percy left on their honeymoon the guests gathered at an informal tea party at Mrs Stratford’s home, where the many beautiful wedding gifts were the subject of much interest. As her going-away ensemble, the bride wore a nigger-brown costume with a deep cream satin blouse and accessories in brown to tone. Mr and Mrs Percy intend making a motor tour of the North Island. In the evening Mrs West entertained the guests in the Te Ore Ore school. The bridegroom’s cousin supplied dance music, and during the evening a number of enjoyable items were rendered.
