MINING DISPUTE
HOLD UP AT PUKEMIRO. SETTLEMENT LIKELY. HAMILTON, April 2. At a meeting of miners at Pukemiro yestrday, attended by the Minister of Mines, Hon. P. C. Webb, it was announced by the secretary of the local miners’ union that the union committee would recommend to the men that they accept the terms of settlement arrived at after discussion with the mine manager. The men will consider this recommendation at the mine head on Monday morning and it is believed that it will be accepted and the men return to work. The terms of settlement have not been disclosed.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Webb again appealed to the miners not to let petty differences result in strikes which were endangering the industry and making the miners look ridiculous.
