Wellington Politics.
(Prom our Own Correspondent.) Willinoios, Tuesday, July 12. Mr A A 8 Mcuteatb, a candidate for the Ts Aro seat, addressed a large meeting at tbe Opera House last night and obtained a vota oi confidence. He made a very good address which was well received. He reviewed tbe Financial policy of tbe late Government and ridiculed their brand new election cry of Protection. Judging by the favor with which hie remarks on this subject were received tbe feeling in favor of Protection in Wellington is but skin deep. He made considerable fun of Messrs Stout and Ballanoe’s claims to be considered the working man's friend, and declared to a certain extent against Sir Robert Stout's educational policy. Someone at this stage called out: "Stout's an exScboolmaster," whereon someone else exclaimed : “ He’s a gentleman." Mr Menteeth replied : " Well, be has a handle to bis name, anyway."
