Mr G M Waterhouse, MLC, on Election Matters.

Perhaps i; is not generally known that efforts have been made to induce other gentlemen .to come forward as candidates for the seat for Wairarapa South beside the two who have already declared themselves. Nevertheless such is the case and among the correspondence upon the matter, in reply to an elector in the South Wairarapa district, who asked Mr G. M. Waterhouse, M.L.C., if he would consent to stand as a candidate for the representation of the constituency in Parliament if requested to do so, that gentleman writes as follows My Dear Sir,— I feel gratified by the receipt of your letter of 22nd instant, and 1 sincerely wish I could accede to its request ; but the work and the hours of the Lower House are altogether beyond my strength. I feel with you the necessity of having good men in Parliament, and believe tho only chance of salvation for this colony is in the election of those who prefer the interests of the country to those of party or locality, and who will, in spite of all besetments to the contrary, insist upon honesty, efficiency and economy of administration. Yours truly, G. M. WaterHOUSE.
