Queen Victoria's Jubilee.
(Post Second Prize Poem.)
Why wakes the world from gloom and cloud To glad rejoicings far and near } A thousand voices echo loud, “ It is our Sovereign’s Jubilee.' Hang out the banners on tbe wall' Let tbe salute right royal be! And thunder forth to one and all Oar noble Lady’s Jubilee, The wide world round, On laud and sea, The songs resound of Jubilee.
Remotest corners of the earth Send forth your wannest cheers to-day ; Ring out, sweet bells I in heartiest mirth. As rich a peal as bridal day. From distant lands the news shall come Of great rejoicings from afar. In mount and valley, heart and home — And nought their happiness shall mar. The wide world o'er, On land and sea. It is Victoria's Jubilee.
May guardian angels linger near Our gracious Queen, with shielding wings: May she be happier year by year, With blessings from tbe “ King of Kings ” No sorrow ciond her royal brow, A nation s love encircled round, And peace reign through her Empire now, A crown of blessing ever found. The wide world round, Oa laud and sea. We U keep our Lady’s Jubilee.
Fair Empress of the mighty East 1 All Dittoes welcome joyfully ; The fifty summers that Dave past Have bound them close to thine aod thee. Thy ships have sailed to distant isles With gospel words, and gracious laws Thy gallant soldiers, many a while. Have feught in freedom s sacred cause. The wide world o’er, On land and gea, Let songs resound of Jubilee.
A thousand nameless charms hang round The thought of England's Mother-Queen, Her kindly heart, and love profound. Her stately step, and gracious mem. Her childrens' love shall be her stay, A crown of joy, though life be long.— And loyal subjects ever may Surround her with a love as strong. In heart and home, On land and sea, It is oar Sovereign's Jubilee.
*■ Long may she reign,' our noble Queen, Each year be brighter than the last, Her reign the grandest ever seen ; " God bless her ’' now. as in the past. A million loving beans to-day lieat with one feeling true and strong,— L’n.tcd now, we ever pray Our grac.ous Queen mai rule as long fnc w;-j-> world o'er, On land and sea.
