The Jubilee in the Wairarapa.

A'though the townships in the Lower Valley have taken no steps to celebrate the | Jubilee on their owa account, a large nun! 1 j ber of people will take part in the doings at Carterton and Maaterton, while not a few will go down to Wellington. The Jubilee Committee at Maaterton have made final arrangements for the celebration at lost. They have decided to erect one large triumphal arch in Queeu Street to be illuminated with gas. The festivities will include a procession, roasting a bullock, children’s treat, Maori haka under the arch, fancy dress ball, magic lantern, concert for the children. and display of fireworks. The Cartel ton Jubilee Demonstration on Monday is likely to he a great success, notwithstanding that the details have not been fully published in this district. Tbe Greytown Fire Brigade would have entered tbe Firemens’ competition, but kuew nothing of the matter until last night. The Grey to wo Odd fellows and the Juvenile Lodge of Odd - fellows have resolved to attend the Carterton Demonstration on Monday next. The Waiohine Lodge of Druids will probably proceed per brake from the Post Office in the morning and the members of the Fire Brigade have resolved to go by their own conveyances or by rail. It is expected that quite twenty of the Greytown Fire Brigade will take part in the proceedings. Providing the weather is favorable a large number of the residents of Greytown will attend and assist their Carter ton friends to suitably carry out their festival. The handsome and varied costumes and regalia of the local Foresters, Oddfellows and Druids’ Lodges will no doubt lend a pleasing effect to the procession, and the local voluu teera will also swell the ranks of the pageant A torchlight procession takes place in the evening in which the Fire Brigades will take part. The Carterton Druids meet to attend Divine Service at 8.45 in the morning, and the Cat-tenon Volunteers muster for parade at 8 3b, At 10 a.m. tlm proeeHuiuu leaves the 0;d town hall (mis end of Carter ton] marching to the Pas oral Society's Grout d. All Greytown people wishing to take part, or see the procession should leave for Carterton between 8 and 9a m. Special train arrangements have been made for the occasion, and we sincerely trust that our friends in Carters ton and their visitors wi.l spend a pleasant day and one long to be remembered both by young and old, as a fitting and enjoyable celebration ef this most important event. It is to be hoped that as many of the Feathers ton, Greytown and Lower Valley people as possible will heartily assist their neighbors of Carterton in making a monster gathering, Following are the handicaps declared foi the various events on Monday next at Carterton ;
