Greytown Improvement Society.

The members of the above Society held tbeir abniversary tea and entertainment last at the Foresters’ Hall, and though it rained ai if the Clerk of the Weather was an enemy lo enjoyment and improvement, yet a large company of young folks and frieods gathered at the bountifully spread tables. Tea being over games were indulged in, two or three new ooea introduced causing much merriment. It was intended to have a display of fireworks before tbe entertainment but aa no one cared to venture outside in the wet this was dispensed with. At the entertainment which followed Mr Nation was voted to the chair and he called upon Miss Horn blow to read the report, which dealt with the pro. gress made during the last ten months and stated that the Society originated among a few lade who gathered last winter in an old cottage to improve themselves. From thia small beginning an Improvement Society bad been formed and was now composed of both sexes. Fortnightly meetings have been held at which Mr Nation has, as a rale, been present, to give an address or drill in singing. Thanks were also rendered to Mr Tate for bis late interesting lecture. Upon the motion of Miss M. Haigb, seconded by Mise M Cotter the report was adopted. The various Items on tbe programme were then taken up, which consisted of songs, trios, choruses, violin dnet, readings, and recitations, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Mias Nation, Mr Tate and Mr M. Varnham sapplied the instrumental musio.
