The Great Sculling Race.

In the sculling race, Haitian was lead* ing by a length for the first, mile, which in"rounding the buoy, he increased to two lengths, hut he stop]ied rowing for an instant, and on resuming commenced ta tlag and pull unevenly. At the beginuiug of the third mile Gaudaur quickcued his stroke, and passing his opjwnout secured a lead of six lengths. Hanlau spurted, and reduced the gap, hut wm unable to keep the sliced. Gaudaur slackened as he neared the winning post, and rowed in an easy winner. Hanlau declares that ho was suffering from cold, Gaudaur slates that the race was tho hardest he has ever rowed. The race was rowed in a driving rain. Tho championship of America is now in the hands of Gaudaur. It would appear that Haulan’s best, days are over. He has paid a deposit for a race with Beach, which he may now forfeit, for public interest will centre on Gaudaur and Beach at the Parramatta Lowing Carnival in December, New York, June 1. la spite of his defeat by Gaudaur, Haul an will proceed to Australia to row Beach on the Nepean Kiver, His supporters attribute bis defeat to tbe rough water.
