The New Registrar.

Wo ate pleased to hear that the Government has promised to consider the matter ol a local resident registrar oi electors in Wairarapa South. A correspondent the other da; suggested Qreytown or Featherston as a central polling place for this district, and it is more than probable that either ol these two towns will be selected, so as to suit the bulk of tbe settlers in the outlying districts. New electoral rolls will of course be printed, and there will be a quantity of necessary work required to be done by the registration officers. There will, no doubt, be a goodly number of new claimants for the exercise of the franchise, and should a geo* graphical centre be considered, Qreytown will, we opine, be selected, although, as Fea» therston has hitherto been the chief polling place for the constituency, tbe Government may consider it well not to disturb existing but allow the registration officer to take up bis abode at Featherston. If the Government think fit to select, Featherston as the centre of Wairarapa South for electoral purposes it will be both satisfactory to the electors of all parts of Wairarapa South, aud convenient to the voters residing at Wellington. Carterton and Qreytown are within easy distances by train aud either Featherston or Qreytown .being about the same distances from Martinborough are the only places which are within a reasonable distance to parties wishing to register their votes. It is not likely to be a question to cause any petty feelings of jealously between the several places, as unquestionably tbe centre of tbe electorate is required where (he bulk of the electors reside.
