The Jubilee.
To the Editor of the Standard. Sis, —A suggestion has bees made bj a correspondent of one of the leading newspapers of the colony tha f steps should be taken to induce the railway department to run excursion trains from the country into town at a merely nominal rate, say, Is for any place under 25 miles, and 2s for 5() miles. He thinks that hundreds of families would gladly avail themselves of such an opportunity to visit the metropolis. Could not a deputation wait upon Mr Maxwell to ask him to grant the Wairarapa people this privilege. I am, &c., Jolly Bot. Our correspondent is modest compared with the Mayor of Timaru, who has, in the name of tho Jubilee Committee, asked the Minister for Public Works to allow the public to travel free of charge on tho railways on Jubilee Day.—Ed.
