HOUSE OB’ REPRESENTATIVES. TUESDAY. ENCOURAGEMENT TO LOCAL INDUSTRIES. Mr Ballauce moved that a Select Com. mittee be appointed, to consist of Hon Major Atkinson, Mr Garrick, Mr Jones, Mr Bracken, Mr Peacock, Mr Bruce, Mr Dargaville, Mr Hatch, Mr Moss, and the mover, to consider how manufactures and industries may be encouraged, with (Xiwcr to call for persons and paiiors, and to reiwrt from time to time ; thioe to form a quorum. Some little discussion ensued. Mr Ballauce said the object of the committee was to enquire into the state of the industries of tho colony, and place the result before the House. The Committee would enquire into the condition of every industry which required a stimulus A similar Committee appointed in 1881 did most valuable work, and the Government of the day adopted the suggestions of the Committee, and embodied them in their Bills. He hoped that the Committee would bo a standing order. RILLS. The Laud Acquisition Bill was introduced into a committee of tho whole House and read a first time. The Representation Bill was committeed, discussed, and progress reported. The Legislative Council Constitution Bill was read a first time. TONGARIHO NATIONAL PARK. Mr W. F. Bucklaud asked the Minister of Lauds whether there is any disputc among the natives as to the ownership of the laud proposed to be included in the Tougariro National Park. Tho Native Minister said he was not aware of any dispute. SWIMMING AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS, Mr W. F. Bucklaud asked the Minister of Education whether he will take the necessary steps to have the art of swimming taught to the public school children of the colony. Tho Premier said it was a question for the School Committees to consider.

In the Legislative Council on Tuesday the Hon Mr Meuzics presented several petitions from residents of New Ply. mouth against the employment of females in hotels as barmaids. The Colonial Secretary gave notice of his intention to move for leave to introduce a Hill entitled the Counties Act Amendment Bill.
