Featherston School Committee Election.

To the Editor 0/ thi StonJarJ. Sib, — The word* of “ Fiat Jnsfifi* are the words of a man who ought to be" lister ed to. He is known amongst us as a matt who wields a powerful influence thriugh the press, not only in the Wairarap*. but in Wellington ; and I believe if Dame Fortune had been a little more favorable he wou.d have b-*en a second Iron Dti*e in features. When he wrote concerning the appointment of a certain Jndividnal upon the Featherston School Chimin if tee he did *0 u P on conscientious grounds and lor the public g 'od, for there are mans persons, .. hj would vote for old Btel-zebub him seif if became forward in the interests of education and the "eltare of tin young. Ihe public of he itherstoi should feel deeply grateful to *' hoi' Juslitia ” for pointing out any duehe tion ot duly on their psrt, for “ l iat has seen much of the world and he is now getting venerable with age. II is a very able man and rcspecti o highly by cur good townspeople. He has always been so unprejudiced and disinterested in every public duly ; so free from any miserable party feeling; so frank and outspoke u in his criti ciama—that we have learned to look np to and revere him. No weathercock is he, though he pays much attention to the latest breeds of poultry. With him we never find prevarication or dissimulation., and we can trust his word when once he has spoken ; a tnake-in-the-grass he could not be Bia record ot public services in this town is a long and brilliant one. and his consistency is one of our little state jewels. There are a few miserable creatures who differ from him who rail at and point the finger of •corn at him, but still “ Fiat Justitia ’’ goes on like the sun in his strength and ever and anon condescends to help ns poor mortals and point out to us the wavs of wisdom. He has called as larrikins, and so we must be, because be says so, therefore let us sit down in sackcleth and ashes and when another election for a school committee takes place let us remember “ Fiat Justitia ” and plump for him alone I am, &c., Msphi.-topuelks. Featherston, May 2

To the Editor of the Standard. Sir,— Will “ Omega ” kindly inform the public who this prominent illust-d member of the school committee i<- Lu refers to. I have no doubt whatever, in my own mind, that the gt ntleman elected at the head of the poll is far more capable rf consent.:.d .. Jhe cloven hoof peeps out ; n hi- ic-f ron'-e to the “ Upper Ten.’’ Docs he remember the words made use of at *l;c election by his clique, “we vl',l sho.v the tig fellow? wha’ wc end'and by thunder they did. w ;th a vengeance, to their diss'aic. To the Editor of the Standard. | Sis, — I noticed in your issue of the j 27th inst., a letter signed “ Fiat j Jn»titia’’in which he disagrees with i the action taken by certain gentlemen | and their larrikin associates, (as he j terms them), at the late school elec-1 tion. I must say I differ from him ■ on the ground that it was carried cut! in a perfectly legal manner, and every 1 householder has a right to vote iior j any candidate be thinks proper ; but { if any one differs from the views taken 1 by “ Fiat Justitia ” the first thing he does, (without allowing himself time to consider whether be is right or \ wrong), is *.o write to the press, making I all kinds of frivolous complaints. 11 would strongly advise him to substitute | such letters, as J D or o„oranv other letters of the alphabet in place of “Fiat Justitia,' a* he is too we'lhnown by that name. Perhaps they are the only two Latin words he knows, and like the boy with new toys, makes a great deal of them, and I would further advise him to mind his own hu-i----neas, and nd interfere with others. “ Fiat Justitia ” can bear this in n.ino, bad it not been tor the said gent emen and larn-in associates he w.uil not hav<* been ir s « priiiim nt a ;>■ -i lion as hemnv is JL.wever. tin t u.,1 reo.tml- r him t-.<* Ik .«;at> s > -i s. >.,.«• fu'ure 'it’ii-, v. hii w.i Und ttit r SUj P' rt W ; he v..tu ;; r.
