The Cantata at Carterton.

As was expected, there was a very large audience at the Cantata “ Under the Palms" at Carterton, on Friday. Every chair was occupied, forms were placed up the aisle, and numbers had to stand. The platform was prettily arranged and ornamented, the children's chairs being placed in the form ot a semicircle. The rendering wm, in many respects, an improvement on the one at Featberston. The quartettes were beautifully given, s» alto was the “ Echo Chorus.” The “ Humming Chorus " was splendidly done, and the “ Flower Chorus ” brought many of the audience upstanding. So great was applause, that the piece was repeated. The quintettes, wo thought an improvement. The little choristers in their neat white drosses and colored sashes, so well arranged—the taller in the centre tapering off to the smaller in order, were again a great attraction. Their renderings were in capital voice, and they threw much I,'fe into their numbers. The orchestra performed their parts in excellent time, and with great effect. The audience was held from beginning to end. We hope the Cantata will be as successful in Greytown tonight. So far, it has taken all by surprise. No one thought that iu so short a time nearly SU performers, the majority of whom had never sung m any sized chorus before, could be so efficiently trained in time, modulation aud fulness of tone. As the first effort of the kind in the Wairarapa, we would suggest that a group of the performers, as arranged last night, be taken. We believe a hundred copiee would be disposed of at ouce.
