Greytown Horticultural & Industrial Society’s Autumn Show.

President, W. 0. Buchanan, M.H.R.; Vice, Presidents, Coleman Phillips, Esq., and H U. Jackson, Esq.; Committee, Messrs W. Bkeet (chairman), W. C. Nation, W. Bey. F. Barratt, T. Kemp ton, jun., O. Bollard. li. St George, W. Brooks, W. Udy, J. Hebley, and J. Johnson. Secretary and Treasurer, C. Higgins. The Show yesterday at Greytown far exceeded the hopes of the most sanguine so far as entries were concerned, both in quality and quantity. In pot plants, with the assistance of Mr A. Booth, who forwarded his really splendid specimens, that class was exceed, ingly well represented. Messrs Wilkinson, Booth and Brooks and Miss Eempton from Elm Grove also made between them an excellent show of cut flowers ; indeed it was surprising to every one that such luxuriant blooms could be anywhere found after the late unfavorable season. The fruit class, without one word of exaggeration was championed with magnificent exhibits in apples, plums, melons, nectarines, peaches, filberts, blackberries, grapes, 4c. Such peaches as were shown bv Mr Thompson yesterday have probably never been beaten, and the luxuriance of the hot house grapes caused many a moistening of the month to the beholders, and one and all that attended the Autumn Show yesterday were in accord with wonder at the splendid collection on this table. The vegetables which were previously supposed to be likely weak in appearance were certainly to the contrary, and the potatoes, turnips, carrots, Ac., were indeed prime and fit for any market in the world. Then the bee exhibits were really the best ever shown in the valley, and Messrs Hebley and Johnson, or Johnson and Hebley (as we do not wish to mention either first, being both worthy of that precedence) are really to be pnblicly commended end congratulated npon the success of their efforts to so fully develop this industry. Mr Hebley must have had nearly a half a ton of honey in the roomgood, eclid, fall bodied honey of excellent color, and Mr Johnson bad some beans tifally refined honey that received mnoh notice. Messrs Spearink, Everet, Bryant, H H Jackson, Anderson, and A Matthews were the judges in the fruit, flower and vegetable class, Mesdames Tolly and F H Wood judged the ladiee' fancy work, Messr* Dorset and Braithwaite the poultry, and Messrs E A Campbell and Matthews the penmanship, and the decision of the judges in every class was duly endorsed by a discerning public in the evening. There was only one blemish, if that can be called one, aud that was the falling off in the takings from last spring show. Although the attendance of the public was large in the evening, nothing like the number that attended the former show in the daytime visited the show in the afternoon, consequently the takings at the door are not mnoh above half the former amount, although the show wss infinitely better. The stagers were—Messrs A L Webster, T Porritt, JL St George and Rev W T Western, and their duties were carried oat most ably. The Private Brass Band, under Ur M Varnham, attended in the evening in full and played some very enjoyable selections. The following is the prize list: — Glass I— Pot Plants.
