SPORTING.

The Australian Cup was won by Trident by a head; Nelson 2, All Gold 3. 2J miles. Time, 4min 4|secs. A grand struggle ensued between Trident and the New Zealand horse from the end of the carriage paddock to the judge’s box ; Lochiel was hopelessly beaten. Tbo Sires Produce, f of a mile, was won by Abetcorn, time, Imin 17J secs. Hurdles by Goodwood, Steeplechase by Lizette, Corinthian Cup, one mile, by Abner, Bontke Handicap, Mitrailleuse by a head from Levite. The Ashburton Plate was won by Nellie at the Ashburton races. Tbo horses Pasha, Spade Guinea and Rocket have been purchased by Drake, the bootmaker, and will be taken to Sydney.

TENDI RACE 3. There were about 200 persons at tbo Teuui races on tbo first day. The Handicap Hurdles, 30sovs, was won by Halicore, Zulu 2 ; Cribbage also ran ; div £1 17s. The Hack Hurdles was won by Exchange; Jack and Cloud also ran ; div £1 7s. The Maiden Plate of 20sovs, miles, was won by Scraps, Miro 2, Barbette 3 ; Hine Ra, Acme, Somnus, Minerva and Kimberley also ran ; won easily, time 2miu 50secs; div £2 14s.

MANAWATU AUTUMN MEETING. The Autumn Meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club on Wednesday was highly successful. There was a large number of visitors from Wellington and Wanganui present. Hurdles, of 60 sovs ; two miles—Free* hooter 10st 1, Maminga 9st 71b 2, Merrylegs Sat 71b 3. Flying Handicap, 60 sovs ; six furlongs— Cinderella Bst 131b 1, The Shah Set 91b 3 Princess Royal 6st 71b 3. Manawatu Racing Club’s Handicap, of 200 sovs; one mile and three quarters —Tbe Shah Bst 1, Orwell 7st 2, Cinderella Bst 91b 3. Won by Derrett’s superior riding by half length. Time, 3min losec.
