The order was confirmed, and the Council adjourned. 1 A most enjoyable concert and dance, under the auspices of the Featherston Rifles, took place at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Featherston, last night. There was a good audience, and the singing of the lady and gentlemen ama- - teurs much enjoyed. The Brothers Downard from Carterton also gave their clever performances, and were greatly applauded, receiving encores. Mr Ctouchtr’s step dancing was very good, and he was compelled to reappear. Mr J. H. Parker played the piano accompaniments with his usual taste. The Featherston Town Baud, which is making excellent progress, contributed very much to the success ol the entertainment by playing some wcdl chosen selections. The following ladies and gentlemen kindly gave their much valued services—r ,sses fOakly, Cuudy (2), Barber and Toeker ; Messrs Stevenson, Bezar, Barton, and Parker (instrumentalist). After the concert the hall was cleared for dancing, which was sustained until about midnight, Mr B. Barton acting as MC. There were about thirty couples present at the dance. The event was most satisfactory to all. Mr Turnbull, the architect, is going the round of the Wairarapa towns today inspecting the Bank of New Zealand buildings. He leaves shortly on a visit to England. Sergeant Major Nelson, drill instructor to the Hawkes Bay Volunteers, dropped down dead on Saturday evening from heart disease. Mrs Tucker, a middle aged woman, was drowned at Anckland Baths, on Saturday. Heart disease is the supposed cause. A water famine is feared in Wellington. A ;ery handsome " three decker ” wedding cake is being exhibited in Mr Grigg’s window at Greytowu. It has been made to the order of some “ happy man" residing dowu the Valley who is being married this morning. We hear that a new J.P, will be appointed shortly for Featherston.
