THE WOOL MARKET. BUTTER IN AUSTRALIA. London, February 1. Wool—Competition is increasing and the market is firmer. Since the opening oi the tales the following descriptions have advanced jd per lb. Superior greasy merino, fine and coarse greasy crossbred. Up to date 59,000 bales have been eold. Frozen Meat—The market is quiet. New Zealand mutton weighing per carcase 601b to 661b, is worth 4Jd per lb. Australian beef tallow is selling at 26s 6<l, mutton tallow 30s. New Plymouth, February 3. A butter dealer at Sydney, writing to a local trader, under date 19th February, states the colonial south coast (lllawarra) batter is still coming forward, owing to abundance cl food, but the quality is not good, it is becoming pale and cheesy.
