Jews number 1559 as against 1536 in ISSI, Mormons have decreased from 271 to 188, Spiritualists shew an increase from 11G to 252, Buddhists, Pagans, and Confucians number 4472 as compared with 493G at the 1881 census. Those given as of no denominations are Freethinkers 3925 as against 2422, Agnostics 207 compared with 33, Deists and Theists 83 and 61 respectively, Doubtful 51 and 107, and no denominations (variously returned) 1730 and 1734. Under the heading “ No religion ’’ we have 189 Secularists, as against 96 in 1881, 105 Atheists against 47,11 Materialists against 7, and 668 of no religion as against 122 so returned 1881. There are 2869 unspecified as against 1329 at last census, and the number who objected to state were no less than 19,889 compared with 13,978 in 1881. Those cannot be looked upon as orthodox persons.
