A Freethinker’s Protest.

To the Editor of the Standard. Sib, —The Observer (which at any time does not see much) has dared to insult a large number of persons in Carterton by saying that the_establishment of a FreeLssbciatiou “ would have a baneful influence upon the minds and souls of our youths.” As one of those persons referred to I protest against such a barefaced insult, and hope all who have the courage of their opinions will remember that the Observer is an enemy to freedom of thought and treat it accordingly. The time has gone by when such persons as Freethinkers are to be snubbed and reviled by such Christian newspapers (heaven save the mark) as this oneeyed organ. 1 am glad to see that the Standard gives fair play to both sides, it is only through a free and unbiassed press that we can get at the truth, and I send this letter clieving you will do us justice in publishing I am, Ac., Freethinker. Carterton, Jan 22, 1887.
