Prayers for Rain.

To the Editor of the IVairanipa Standard. Sib,— The letter of “ Faithless ” and “ lulitlel ” go to prove that these men would rob Christians of nil they cling to ns good and non! inspiring. Prayer, in the eyes of such men as “ Faithless ” and “ Infidel " is of no avail wil hj the Ruler over nil. If prayer ia worthless why, I ask, does God require it ? “ For these things 1 will be enquired of ” He says ; and the fact of Elijah praying that it should not rain for the space of three years, and God answering that prayer should make these men pause before they speak against the value of prayer. There is no doubt that Christians look faith iu God or they would sea more answers to their prayers, and that is why we find Freethinkers so daring in their contempt for.prayer. We do not dictate to God how he sheuld act when we ask for rain, A child in asking its father for food does not dictate to the father, but merely gives expression to its wants, and so in offering prayer for rain wetnake known our need to the Father above. lam no writer, hut u plain spoken man, and I think when the truth is attacked that some of our clergymen should take part against infidels and not let thorn have so much their own way. lam sorry to lind it is very se[dom that oar best men arc valiant for the truth in the public’s press. I am, £e„ (IIIURCIItUN.
