CRICKET MEETING MORRISON’S BUSH.
It is mooted that a cricket match will be shortly arranged to be played at Martinborough between the Lower Valley cricketers and one of the other clubs in the Wairarapa.
A large muster of cricketers attended at the schoolroom, Kaitara, last Saturday evening, and Mr Reeves was voted to the chair. Mr Mclntyre proposed that a club be formed, and that it be called the Morrison's Bush Star Cricket Club.
This was seconded and carried unanimously. The following were chosen a committee Messrs Reeves, W Tweeddale, W Knapp, H Knapp, J Cross, H Mitchell, W Mitchell, G Briokell, J Mclntyre, T Wakelin, H Hodge, A Wakelin, and T Ward. Mr Reeves was chosen as practice captain, Mr Mclntyre as secretary, Mr T Wakelin as treasurer, and these with Messrs H Mitchell and H Hodge, were chosen a match committee. The offer of Mr Mclntyre of the use of his paddock, which is in a central position, was accepted with thanks, and the match committee were requested to prepare a pitch on Thursday, the 20th. As the season is half gone a low subscription was fixed. Saturday was chosen as practice day, but members could practioe as often as they pleased, and it was agreed to open the club with a scratch match on the 22nd instant. Votes of thanks were given to Messrs Reeves, Tweeddale, and Wakelin for promoting the formation of a cricket club. A meeting of the committee was held immediately after, of which Mr H Mitchell was chosen chairman. The secretary was authorised to purchase bats, Ac. It was agreed to try and arrange some matches as soon as possible, the first to be with Kaiwaiwai for the oth February, if convenient for that club. Several details were discussed and the committee adjourned. It might be mentioned here that on Christmas Day fifteen to twenty players rolled up and played an interesting scratch match.
FEATHERSTON V TAUIIERENIKAU
A match of cricket was played on Saturday last between an eleven of the t. I’herston club and eleven of the Tauherenikau e’nb, and resulted in a win for Featherston by ten wickets.
