He is a very fast trctter ; has firstclass action, and a splendid temper. TO TRAVEL IN WAIRABAPA DISTRICT. The Pore Clydesdale Stallion ee AVON’ 5 AVON is a bay horse with black point*, aud stands 17 hands, with plenty of bone and hair. He is come of a great family. His dam was sold _ _ at 80 guineas when good mares were sold at a fourth of that price. She is out of a Blackleg mare—one of a family offour, out ef the same dam, and the quartette, by Renfrew Jock, were the fonr best horses ever bred in the Oamaru district. AVON, by Avon Chief (150, N Z. 5.8.), bred by Wm Boag, Esn., Fendalton, near Christchurch, out of bis famous prize marc Grace Darling (36), by Prince of Kilbride, Imported (862*) Grace Darling by Prince Charlie, imported (4 and U2u*). Grace Darling was the best mare that ever stcod in New Zealand. She has been first and Champion at Christchurch many times, beating the great Maggie Craig, Champion of Scotland, She was first at Dunedin in her class and Champion of theyard, in fact her career in the nng is unprecedented. AVON’S dam, Gipsy, by Renfrew Jock (136), imported from Victoria ; g sire Renfrew, imported from Scotland j g dam Jesa, by Blackleg, imported from Scotland. Renfrew Jock’s dam Rose, by Cowden Lad a famous Clydesdale, imported from Scotland by the late David Nesbitt Renfrew Jock was a most successful show horse. Before leaving Victoria he took many firsts, and he was first 3 years in succession in Oamaru, Timaru, and Dunedin, and Champion of the yard as well. From this history breeders will recognise that they have in Avoir not only a horse of good parte, but an Entire of good lineage, a matter altogether different from a good looking horse, T be great point in horse breeding is to have a sire connected with good families of undoubted character. In the one case the stock will be uniformly good, while in the other case iadiI viduals may surpass, but the general character of the | stock will be inferior and disappointing.
