Volunteering.

The Greytown Rifle Volunteers mustered for inspection parade last night. Major Bunny was present as inspecting officer. The company appeared for the first time in their new full dress uniforms. The members were nearly all present, and after inspection were marched out to a paddock at the south end of the town, where some skirmishing motions were practised at some length. Afterwards the company was marched back to the Town Hall and dismissed, Captain Cameron having previously announced that he had received a letter from the Masterton Corps wishing to fire a match at Greytown on Saturday, 18th inst. The Greytown Volunteers will now be nearly as well equipped as any Rifle Company in New Zealand, and as the members are 'at present diligently attending to their duties they should havo every reason to be proud of their position. Mr R. A. Wakelin was elected an honorary member to the corps last night, and the Company now have on the roll a goodly list of honorary members. In addition to the members already announced, Sergeant Humphries and Vol J, B. Hobman have qualified for marksmen.

The Featherston Volunteers under Captain A. Donald mustered for inspection parade on Monday night. This company have shot exceedingly well this season, and have some excellent marksmen among their number. They also keep up their strength remarkably well. They will shortly compete against the Greytown Company on the Greytown range.
