Board of Education.

The monthly meeting of the Board of Education Board was held on Wednesday morning, and was attended by Messrs Blair (chairman), Buchanan, Yonng.JA. W. Brown, Bonny, Bier J. Pateraon and Dt Newman. The teacher of the Fahiatoa School mVad that the Christmas vacation should be radoeed to two weeks, so as to make up for the time lost during the past winter. The application was supported by the committee, arid the Board decided to grant it, Mr Bonny jocularly observed that if he were one of the children he should object to the curtailment of the holidays. _ The Board declined to grant an application that they should provide free railway passes for the children of the Masterton district who are to attend the scholarship •mnination at Carterton. An application for an additional teacher lor the Masterton district was not granted, as the Board considered that the present number of pupils did not entitle the Committee to another teacher. The question of making additions to the teacher’s residence at Parkvale was considered, and it was resolved to vote £25 for the purpose of enlarging the house. The Board decided to ask the Dalefield Committee to furnish estimates of the cost of erecting shelter sheds in the local school. The Masterton Committee wrote recommending that a gallery should be erected in the main schoolroom. The matter was referred to the Inspector lot his report. Mr* Seale, assistant at Grey town, applied for a boons for past services. The application was not granted. A latter from the Oreytown School Committee, eencsrnicg the head master, was held over for a month.
