THE EDUCATION BOARD OF THE DISTRICT OF WELLINGTON. HPHE Examination for THIRTEEN •A Scholarships, tenable for 2 years from Ist Janaary, 1887, offered by the Education Board, will be held simultaneously in the Training College, Wellington, and in the Greytown School, on WEDNESDAY, the Ist December, at 10 a.m. The examination is open to all children whether they are receiving their instruc. tion in Public Schools or not, under 15 years of age on the Ist day of December next. The names, ages, and addresses of all intending competitors should be forwarded to the Secretary not later than the 25th NOVEMBER. The scholarships are thus appropriated : Six scholarships of £ls annual value, open to all children attending any school in the City of Wellington. Two scholarships of £3O annual value, open to all children attending any school in the Wairarapa district. Two scholarships of £3O annual value, open to all children attending any school in the Wellington Country District. Also, three scholarships of £l6 annual value, open to all children in any school in the Wellington Educational District.

These scholarships are given subject to diligence and good conduct on the part of the scholars, and the regulations contained in the addendum to clause 51 of “ The Education Act, 1877," which reads as follows “ The successful competitor for any such Scholarships, shall receive any amount of bis or her Scholarship only so long as he or she shall continue his or her education at any School or Educational Institution under the control of the Board at which the higher branches of education are taught, but if there be no such school or institution in the district where the bolder of the Scholarship resides, then at such school subject to inspection by a Public School Inspector, as the Board may approve of.” The subjects of examination are those prescribed for Standard VI by Order in Council, of date 24th September, 1878, but no scholarships will be awarded unless two-thirds of the possible number of marks are obtained. |_4 'OUR Primary Scholarships are open for competition to pupils of the age of 12 years and upwards attending any Primary School in the Provincial District of Wellington. Each scholarship is tenable up to the 'age of 16 years, and its value is equivalent to the Tuition Fees at the College or Girl’s High School. THE Caledonian Society of Wellington offer to competition four Scholarships as under _l. A “ Caledonian ” Scholarship for Girls, tenable at the Girls’ High School. 2. A “ Caledonian ” Scholarship xor Boys, tenable at the Wellington College. 3. The “ Duthie ” Scholarship for Boys, tenable at the Wellington College. 4 The “ Mackay ” Scholarship for Boys, tenable at the Wellington College.

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 are open to the children of all parents who are members of the Caledonian Society of Wellington, and are tenable for two years, subject to passing the required examinations. The annual value of each is equal in amount to the Tuition Fees at the College or High School. The “ Mackay ” Scholarship is open to ALL Boys whose parents reside at a distance of not less than TEN miles from the city of Wellington. The winner will be entitled to free Board and Education at the Wellington College for two years, subject to passing the required examinations.

The limits of age, subjects of examination, time and place of examination, will be the same as for Education Board Scholarships; but no winner of a Caledonian Society Scholarship will be allowed to hold an Education Board or a Primary Scholarship at the same time. Intending competitors must forward their names and then 1 age last birthday to the Secretary of the Education Board on or before the 25th instant.
