A league has been formed in Newcastle with the object of securing the establishmen; of the eight hours’ labor system, and it is intended to carry on the agitation throughout the country. The Porte has demanded from the British Government the date of the evacuation of Egypt. Russia and France are supporting Turkey in this step, whilst Germany and Italy declined to interfere. New Zealand mutton is selling at from 4Jd to 41J in the Smitbfield market. Beef tallow, 24s ; mutton tallow, 26s fid. New York, October 23. Severs shocks of earthquakes were experienced yesterday and this morning at Charlestown, in South Carolina, aud extending through the States of Georgia and Florida. Much damage has been done to property, and several persons have been injured by the earthquakes. Melbourne, Oct. 26. The Argus of to day publishes a communication from its correspondent ia the New Hebrides, stating that road making is being carried on by the French troops on those islands, aud that their entire proceedings point to a permanent occupation by France.
