According to the “ Matanra Eniigb a child ol Mr U'lver, Waikaia, about four months old, waa attacked by a ferret while asleep in its cot on Sunday laat. Its cries aroused its mother, who discovered the animal eating the child’s face, which waa one maaa of blood and wounds. It was at once removed and destroyed. These animals, our informant remarks, are likely to prove a greater pest than the rabbits. Central Australia expects to eventually become the chid hone-producing district of Anctnlia.
