GREYTOWN CRICKET CLUB.

The match notified for last Saturday (Treasurer v. Secretary) did not eventuate, owing to the non attendance of most of those who were expected to play, but a very good practice match was held, sides being picked by Messrs Cox and Webster (nine on Webster's and eight on Cox’s). Webster’s side was the first to bat, but were soon disposed of for the small score of 19 runs, the highest scorer being the captain with 6. The most successful bowlers were W. Judd and Nation, the former getting 3 wickets lor 6 runs, and the latter 4 for 4. Cox’s side was more fortunate in the ran getting, the innings showing a total of 39 runs (21 ahead), the captain being top scorer with 15, the only double figure, obtained by steady play. H. Hawke coming off best with the bowling, 2 wickets tor 9 runs. Three men on Cox’s side were run out, which is to be regretted. Our players must avoid the short risky runs. Fielding, owing to the long grass, was not very pleasant, many runs being lost through the same cause. Altogether, the practice was a very good one, the regret being that more were not present to take part in it. No doubt the threatening weather had something to do with the poor attendance. Extras ware small on both sides. The batting all through the match was very even and steady. Some of the players wore the uniform, blue and white, which looked very neat. The club have an acquisition in Mr Leeks, who is a good all round cricketer, and who will pro bably be heard of during the season. Next Saturday it is proposed that Qreytown play Knratiwhiti. The following are the scores one innings each only being played ’

For the outs and sore hands so common in the bush a good remedy is to bind a gum leaf on the sore and change the leaf frequently. Any of the eucalypti will do. The broad or silver leafed or ironbark, was - used most successfully by a man in Queensland lately in curing a very sore band, that he suspected of getting poisoned. The pain and inflammation were both going up the arm and into the shoulder when be tied the ironbark leaf on, aud within half an boor got relief, aod the hand was nearly well in a few days. A proclamation, issued by the Governor of Tasmania, forbidding the importation of sheep or sheepskins into that colony from New Zealand, is reprinted in the Gaasttc.
