Wairarapa West County Council.

This Council met at Carterton on Saturday last. Present - Crs Booth (in tbe chair) B. Bunny, H. R. Bunny, W. C. Buchanan, H. Braitbwaite, J. Tully, A. Matthews, C. Phillips and J. Martin, jun. Tbe Treasurer read the report and stated that there was a credit balance of L 533 6s 7d.

Correspondence— From Taratahi-Carterto n Road Board stating that they would advance £4OO on the same teims as tbe Featherston Road Board, which offer was accepted. From East County Council re Local Bodies. From the Wellington Harbor Board. It was resolved that the Clerk write to tbe Harbor Board informing them that this Council coincides with them. From the Government re Babbit pest. Resolved that it was too late to do anything in the matter. From same re the Wairarapa Lake difficulty. From Cook County Council, re tbe Native Laud Bill. Besolved to reply that it was too late to do anything in the matter. The Engineer’s report was read, tbe main feature being that the Martinborougb-Pahaua Road would have been completed only for slips which bad occurred during the bad weather

In reference to tbe the minute relating to the Waiohine River Board it was stated that they had authorised the Engineer not to accept any tenders for the protection beyond a certain limit.

In reference to Mr (Dawson’s contract, it was resolved that Lis time for completing the work be extended to tho 30th September, 1886.

A letter from Mr Sexton re the further lease of the Huruuuioraugi ferry reserve was read.

Cr H. B. Bunny explained that he had spoken to Mr Sexton and informed him that the Council thought that it would be advisable to take two or three acres for the purpose of making a house for the roadman.

Cr Buchanan moved and Cr Matthews seconded that tbe report as brought up by the Committee be adopted. Carried. Cr Bunny moved and Cr Braitbwaite seconded, That the toll house be removed on to the Waiohine rives ’reserve at a cost not exceeding LlO and that tenders be called for the lease ol tbe same. Carried.

From East County Council re proposed bylaws for slaughterhouses and pointing out that section 9 was too stringent, and recommending that it should be left to the satisfaction of the inspector to say whether offal, &c., lias been removed according to the by-law. From the ttreytown Borough Council, stating that it agreed with carrying lights to vehicles, but had no suggestion to make re slaughterhouses. From Featherston Town Board and the Mas tenon Borough Council on the same subject. Resolved that Cr Phillips be requested to re-write the by-laws and submit them to the next meeting with the view of their being passed. Cr Buohanan read a letter from Mr Roe relative to the Council making an exchange of a piece of land with him for a piece of the Hurunuiorangi reserve. Resolved that the matter be left with Cr Buchanan to report on at the next meetiug.

Sundry accounts were passed for paymeut, and the meeting closed.
