Pastoral Association.

At the annual meeting of the W'airarapa Pastoral Society held, on Saturday, when Mr W. C. Buchanan, U.H.R., was unanimously elected president for the sixth successive year; Mr H. It. Bunny, vice-president, and Mr C, W. Pharazyn treasurer, The report showed that the association, although showing a nominal deficiency for the year of £2-54 4s 6d, was in a very much improved condition as to its finances, its total liabilities baying been reduced from £1166 4s 6d to £562 19s. Regret was expressed that the weather at the last show had been so unfavorable, but in spite of that it was gratifying that the gate money had beeu £lO more than last year. The institution of a separate show for poultry, dogs, horticultural and industrial products bad been an unqualified success, and the ram fair in February had been well attended. Allusion was made to the Masterton opposition, and the opinion was expressed that coalition was impossible so long as it, was made a sine qua non that the locale of the shew should be removed to Masterton. Id conclusion, Mr Booth was thanked in the name of the Souiety for having succeeded iu extinguishing the debenture debt, and soremoved one of tbs great difficulties which have obstructed the progress of the Society. The President, in reviewing the report, thought it encouraging considering the baa luck they had bad in the weather. He referred to the Masterton proposal, and said it was not one which could be acceded to. With a little exertion on the part of members he was sure that the roll could be doubled, and the whole debt extinguished before the next annual meeting. Mention was made of the names of Mr 0. Pharazyn and Mr B. Boys as two gentleman who had greatly contributed to the progress of the Society. Mr Bunny seconded the adoption of the report, and was quite sure that with united action they could make their Society one of the beat in the colony. Mr B. Armstrong having referred shortly to the money question, Mr Pharazyn thanked the Chairman for the kind expressions which had been used with reference to himself, and stated that any experience he had gained in his recent visit to England would be freely at the service of the Society. In starting the shows at Carterton they had taken a sound and broad view of the district, and he did not think they shonld alter it, Mr Pharazyn, iu eonclnsionl said he had much pleasure in banding baek to the Society the debentures ta tbe value of £6O standing in bis name. Mr Booth, followed Mr Pharazyn's example, said he would make them a present of bis fencing account, which amounted to £3l. Both gentlemen were cordially thanked for their generosity.
