A Queer Case.

Test sometimes do queer things in Wellington. J. Stuart Reid, an Insurance agent, was lately prosecuted for an alleged misappropriation of £792, the funds of the company for which; he acted as agent. When however, the case was brought into the R.M. Court, a document was produced, putting the matter of the £792 in the position of a debt which had been paid by Reid, and no evidence being offered on the part of the prosecution, the case was dismissed. The case has a very “ fishy ” odour about it. The theory is that Reid found the money to arrange the business and that the ‘.prosecuting company consequently abandoned criminal prosecution, Beid has since 11 filed his schedule.”
