Carterton Choral Society.

On Friday evening last a meeting was held at the Institute, Carterton, to consider tbs advisability of forming a Choral Society. There was a fair attendance, and the chairman, Mr L. Wilson, in opening the meeting, spoke of the advantage of such • society in cultivating a taste for music, and affording enjoyment during the long evening*. Mr Beecher moved, and Mr Downard seconded, " That it is desirable to form a Choral Society in Carterton.'' Carried. The annual subscriptions were fixed nt the sum of 10a for gentlemen, (is for ladies, and 4s for juveniles, payable half-yearly in advance. Meant Moore, Downard and Beecher were elected aa a provisional committee to arrange for a practice room. It waa decided to bold the first practice on Wednesday next. Mr Wilson was appointed conductor, and Mrs heed pianist (or this occasion. The society intend to correspond with similar societies at New Plymouth, Blenheim, and Nelson for music.
