Featherston.

A most brilliant gathering took place at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Featherston on Wednesday evening on the occasion of Mr Parker's Plain and Fancy Dress Ball. The hall wae decorated profusely with evergreens, flowers and curtains, which with Chinese lanterns and much extra lighting, gave a charming effect to the gay dresses of the dancers. The harvest queen costume of Miss Simmonds was much admired. The Italian flower girl of Miss Nelly Fenwick and the Highland dress of Mias Fenwick, the Italian peasant girl of Miss Benton, the Cinderella of Miss Biddkk, alter the effective visit of her god mama; the lady Olivia of Mias Jenny Donald and this nautical attire of Miss Feist, made these young ladies the belles of the ball, who divided the admiration of their numerous partners. Creat praise is due to Mr and Mrs Parker for the pains they take in studying the comfort and enjoyment of their visitors, who liberally show their appreciation of the efforts made,to afford them pleasure. Mrs Parker wore an old English drees as Mrs Johnny Qilpin, wife of theheroofridingadventur*. Mr Arthur Toeker was a Persian prinoe, Mr A. Bicknell was a naval commander, and Mr Parker wore the costume of a Turkish jrapolar character. Everything passed off with eclat, and everybody was smiling and happy till an early hour of the morning.
