Taratahi-Carterton Road Board Election.

To the Editor of the Standard. Sib,—The annual election of member* for the Taratahi-Carterton Hoad Board will taka place soon, and I hope the ratepayers will see to it that we have Rood representative men. All things considered the present Board have done their duty, but I for one would like to know from candidates for office in the future, something of their views upon how the money should be spent in the different wards. We should have a distinct pledge from candidates that they are not trying to get in for the sake of getting improvements for their own neigh* borbood. Ido not see why a meeting should not be held at Carterton where every person standing for office could explain hi* nans and answer questions. At it is, one, two or three gentlemen come forward and it is merely a toss-up as to who shall be voted for. A good worker for the whale of the Bold Board district is rarely to be found ; but this is what we want. lam not finding fault with the present Board, but 1 hear of one or two outside individuals who have expressed themselves to the elect that if they can get on the Board at the next election such and snob work shall be done in their own district. I object to such n.en being returned and therefore hope that some pledge will be given by candidates before the election takes place. I am, Ac., Batepateb. Carterton, April 14.
