Landless Natives.

Mb Ballancb, the Native Minister, has a scheme in hand for the settlement of landless Natives in tbe North Island. Toe idea is to settle the landless Natives on Motions o* their own, and the Government intend next session to seek power to set vide some 2000 acres for the purpeae. It is proposed to give a grant of say 20 acres to each Native who may have no claim to any other land, and to make tbe title inalienable. The idea is a good one. It’s weak point ie the difficulty in getting tbe new Native twenty acre men to set diligently to work and thus make an honeat living out of their sections.
