Gymnastics in our Public Schools.

In many continental countries gymnastics form part of a boy's education, and we are glad to sea that the Wellington Board of Education have not only introduced these exercises into the Wellington schools, but have commissioned Professor de Mey, an accomplished gymnast, to visit the country schools for the purpose of bringing the subjeot forward. This gentleman possesses high testimonials, and the fact that his services have been retained by the Board is a sufficient guarantee that he is a first class gymnastic and drill instructor. He has brought on the boys in the Wellington schools in a remarkable manner, and if the various school committees in the Wairarapa towns will take steps to erect the necessary apparatus, Professor de Mey will pay periodical visits for the purpose of giving instruction. The expense of erection will not be muoh, and it will look very bad if the amount cannot be collected |in each town for it. We make an appeal to parents and the public generally to supply what is necessary for the development of strength and ability in " our toys." Many of them slop along for the want of proper training. Now that the opportunity presents itself for devel» oping their muscle* and improving their health (and this done they will gain power of mind also), we hope it will be taken advantage of. We will gladly acknowledge the receipt of any subscriptions towards the object.
