Australasia’s Indebtedness
The total pubi c debt of New South Wales i( 10 millions, of Victoria 27 millions, and of New Zealand 33 millious. Of these sums, New Soatta Wales has spent 24 millions on railways, Victoria 21, and New Zealand 12. In other wolds. New Sooth Wales has spent nearly five-sixths u( her public debt on railway, Victoria seven niuths, aud New Zealand only about three-eighths. After deducting net railway earnings New Sonth Wales pays interest at the rate of about 5s per head of population, Victoria about 6s 6d. while New Zealand people have to pay £2 per bead annually al er making due allowance for the earnings of railways.
