The weights for the forthcoming TaratahiCartcrton Jockey Club’s meeting on the 19th insl were published in the Standard ou Wednesday, and the handicapper is to be congratulated on the popularity of his decisions. The hurdles could not have been better adjusted, ani on that account there is no doubt that the acceptances will be ertra good. Ngatitoa, with the top weight, list 2lb, should have a good chance for this event it Mr Prosser accepts, but Loch Lomond will have au equally good show if he comes. Then the lighter weights have been served remarkably well and should certainly try conclusions. The Taratahi-Cartertou Jockey Club Handicap should prove very attractive to owners, and no doubt all the horses nominated will put in an appearance for this event. This meeting will be a good one if the weather is tine, and will attract many visitors from Wellington. The Clareville Handicap will unquestionably bring out a large field, mil it is to be hoped that the top weight will accept, especially as Mr Peters had such success in the Lower Valley on Boxing Day. The course is in better condition than ever, and immense interest is being taken in the meeting among sporting men thronghout the whole of the large district. I believe the stewards will arrange for a special train from Wellington on the 19th. There are eight events to be ran off daring the day, and all the steward* are practical racing men, so there is no reason why the meeting should not prove enjoyable iu every aense.
