Attempted Bank Robbery.

Melbourne, January 13. An attempt at a bank robbery took place at 16 o'clock this morning at the Colliugwood sub-branch ol the Commercial Bank of Australia. On the arrival of the bank manager with the day’s supply of coin, three men entered the building and attacked him. A straggle took place, in the conrse of which the manager bred a revolver at his assailants ; the shot, however, unfortunately struck the owner of the premises, a Mrs Bavensoroft, who had come in, bearing the straggle ; * the wound resulted in her death. The bank manager made a most plucky defence, flis assailants were larrikins, one of whom was armed with a revolver, the second carried a crowbar, and the tomahawk. None of the money was stolen, the robbers being completely foiled in the attempt to secure the coin. Four persons have been arrested in connection with the affair, but three of the parties, having proved an alibi, were reeased.
