At Canterbury, Secretary won the Midsummer Hurdle Race Handicap. The Midsummer Handicap fell to Leon, Captain Webster 2,’Patrician 3. At Auckland the Derby was won by Foul Shot, Stoneyburst 2, Derringer 3. Won by a length. Nelson won the Chub's Handicap, Wsitiri 2.

The annual meeting of the members of the Tenui Jockey Club was held on the 19th iust. The balance sheet shewed a credit balance of £ls 2s 2d from last year. The following appointments were made :—Messrs J. Handyside, President ; MrMcHutchon, Judge; J. Drummond, Starter ; J. A. Ferry, Clerk of Scales ;.J. McDowell, Clerk of Course ; B. B. Armstrong and N. Grace, hsndicappers ; J. W. Smith, Treasurer; T. MacKay, Secretary ; A. McHntchon and J. McKenzie, Auditors. It was arranged to hold the races ou 4th and 6th March, 1886. The following programme was arrangedFitst Day—Maiden Plate, open to all horses that have never won a prize value L2O, hurdle races excepted ; Hack Race —catch weights to be substituted for 9st. Tinui-Whareama Cup to be reduced iu value L 5. District Handicap—second horse to receive L 5 from stake;. Ladies Purse to be reduced by L 5, and distance altered from 1$ miles to 1 mile. Consolation Stake to be left open until funds are available. The Secretary was instructed to arrange for a totalisator.

This always popular meeting was held this year for the first time at Tauhcrenikan, where future meetings Lave been arranged by the Club to be held. The Tanberenikau course, although about to be abandoned by the Wairarapa Jockey Club, is still a favorite course with some who have pleas* log recollections of days departed. The course on Friday presented its nsnsl animated appearance, and although the new regime was somewhat novel to the inrronndIngs, still a number of the old faces usually to be seen on the ground put in appearanea and everything passed off to the satisfaction of neatly everyone present. Mr A. L. Whyte was in his usual plaes in providing luncheon lot the assemblage, which he did in a liberal and substantial manner. Mr lieu, the worthy host of the Boyal Hotel, Featherston, administered te the requirements of the “ thirsty tools ” st the grand stand bar, and Mr Wilkinson, the popular landlord of the Tanherenikan hotel, waa quite equal to the occasion at the publican's booth, outside. Ur W. Smith, oI Featherston, did a good trade at bis frail stall, and legal game*, &0., were well patronised. The stewards mads excellent arrangements for the cheap conveyance ol passengers from the railway station te the course, and their efforts were much appreciated. Mr Wallace Smith, as judge, of course was the right man in the right place, and the handicapping of Mr H. MoMaster gave very general satisfaction. The Clerk ol tiie Seales, Mr J. T. Hodder, was good at the business, and Mr W. Candy started the home without a hitch. Mr Kenneth McKenzie kept the course in an admirable manner, and Mr Barton, the hardworking and painstaking Treasurer and Secretary did bis level heel to make the meeting comfortable and enjoy* able to everybody, in which he evidently succeeded.
