Younger for the East Wairarapa. Upon Mr Sillar being voted to the chair, Mr D. Tonner asked the future member whetht-r he wan in favor of having an aerial railway from Wellington to Napier. Thi» vas advocated by a number of gentlemen prrs-nt, but Mr Younger thought that it would be advisable to compel the said aerial railway to keep to the middle of the road bo as not to wear down the sides, It wag next proposed by Mr Seven to enquire of the member whether he did not think that an overland route of Steamers from Wellington to Woodville, so as to coal at Ekelahuna, would not he most beneficial to the settlement, ar.d after a good deal of discussion Mr Younger thought it would be more advisable to wait until the dinri.-t wag more thickly populated. Mr White then said that he thought it would be of inestimable value to the out lung settlers, if all fish should be supplied with rargt ifving glasses so as to be able to see their wav into the creeks, when the water was at all thick through hervy rains, and this was considered by Mr Younger and the meeting generally, to be absolutely necessary. Mr Younger then spoke at great length upon the advisability of having all roads upended, •o as to *ll w the water more easily to dram off 'hern, but there were many dissentients to this, and the matter was ultimately settled by Mr Wi-hart suggesting (hat all roads should be carefully ecrapei during the dry summer months, and the mud thus collected should be replaced in winter Mr D. Lmnor suggested an amendment, viz , that Masterton should hind .heir road to Ek Bahtina during the winter months, hut upon the cu.-t of carriage of the roads being totalled up by a member of the committee, the meeting unanimously thought it would he too expensive Mr White then asked Mr Younger it he was in favor of having all trees cut five feet above the tops, so as to allow the sun to dry the roads, do. Mr Younger said that he mn«t allow this to wait a short lime unit! he could sea wh-iher the Government would grant each settler a stumping machine, and so encourage more bush falling, so that Mr Whit*’* motion lapsed. Mr Younger then proposed that a money order office should he instituted but thought that a telephone was not needed, as the electric telegraph would be quite sufficient for immediate use. Mr Younger was on* in favour of having a constable in the district, but so many of the settlers assured him that if one wag appoiu ted they would have to leave the district, that Mr Yoanger kindly allowed the motion to drop.
