Mr Hutchison Redivivus.

That ex Mayor and ex Mr William Hutchison, has come up to Wellington again, and has been angling amongst the ratepayers to see if he has any “ show ’’ for the Mayoralty of that city. Anyhow a requisition was lately hawked about asking Mr Hutchison to eome forward as a candidate, but somehow or other the ratepayers proved false to the old love and wouldn’t sign it. An express driver named Taylor took round the requisition for a day or two, but being disappointed with the fruitless result of his efforts abandoned the work and incautiously went in for a prolonged spree of the most profound, exhaustive, and satisfying kind. Since that sad event nothing more has been heard of the requisition to Mr Hutchison. Still, we should not be surprised if “ the old man ” had another try for the Wellington Mayoralty. Mr Hutchison has great pluck, and although beaten in election contests three times oftener than any other man in New Zealand, is yet always ready to “ come up to the scratch ” fresh and smiling for another contest. But we are inclined to think that Mr Hutchison has no future victory in store for him, and that in very truth he is completely “ played out.”
