"Poor Vogel.”
Auas, poor Vogel! He hasn’t yet got that L6OOO or £7OOO which he claims from the colony as balance of payment for past services. A Parliamentary Committee has been investigating the claim, and has declared that it cannot be dealt with ithis session, so it is practically shelved. We hardly think Vogel has any chance now for this preposterous claim. Vogel himself has become odious to a large section of members in the House, while his iniquitous tariff, and his advocacy of the monstrous Meiggs scheme in connection with the East and West Coast Bailway have made his name obnoxious to the great majority of the colonist!. We should say that Vogel’s chance of getting this L6OOO is not worth even a fraction of a farthing in the pound sterling. The claim was utterly preposterous and it was only through the very sublimity of impudence and audacity that it ever came to be put forward.
