Bit by bit, and shred by shred, the Ministry are getting their policy and measures torn to pieces. Their Customs Tariff has been “cooked.” It seems certain their “ Native Lands Disposition Bill ” will not only be “ cooked,” but be also so overroasted as to dissolve into nothingness and be heard of no more. Their Railway Bill for the benefit of “ Meiggs ” will certainly be sent to the limbo of rejected schemes. Plainly, Ministers are “in evil case ” and their lines have not fallen in pleasant places. Stout trembles ; Ballance is knocked out of his equilibrium, and Yogel no longer boasts that his political “ kites ” will fly up “ like a bird.” It may be explained that in the German language “ Vogel ” means “ a bird.” Wei], Vogel may be “ a bird ’’ but he is now “ a bird ” whose wings have been ruthlessly clipped.
