The Horse Market.

A few days ago the Triumph took 100 horses over to Sydney ; The Hauroto, which passed via Wellington on Wednesday had 132 on board. We find from an exchange that the Indian market is being largely supplied by New South Wales, and good prices realised. The question arises, why is it that New Zealand cannot supply the Indian market 1 Surely it would be more beneficial than disposing of our horses at alowpriceto Australian buyers. A certain class fetch good prices, it is true, but we believe that India, just now is the best market, and in view of trouble with Eussia the demand will be great. The following prices are from a Sydney report. Messrs Brown &Go held a sale, and disposed of 28 head, realising from guineas to 36 guineas lor heavy draught mares, and from £lB to £36 for heavy draught geldings. In New Zealand stock the market is at present somewhat overdone, owing to the numbers coming forward. We are advised of 70 head to arrive by the next incoming steamer. The demand for useful saddle and harness horses is certainly looking up since the late rains. We quote useful and buggy horses at from £2O to £2B ; better classed animals up to £35, or, if particularly good, up to £4O ; useful buggy pairs at from £35 to £SO ; and may mention have several inquiries for well-broken and fairly good looking sorts ; high-classed and well-matched carriage pairs are worth from 100 to 120 guineas ; high-class and weight-carrying hackneys up to £SO.
