Parliamentary Notes.

In the House of Representatives, on Thursday, Mr Macandrew presented a petition horn Sir Julius Vogel for payment for services rendered by him in connection with the insciiption of loans and inscription of stock to the Colony. The prayer of the petition was that the House would take the circumstances into consideration, at d grant such relief as it might think lit. From the high official [position the petitioner held, it hud he n thought advisable that the claim should lie allowed to remain in abeyance, hut in view of the stale of Sir Julius Vogel's health, it was found advisable, in justice to his family, to h-se no time in bringing the matter before the House. The petition was received. Sir George Grey gave notice to introduce a

bill providing for the election of Justices of the Fence. Several hills were advanced a stage. The School Commitli ea’ Election Bill was read a third time and passed. A lengthy debate took place on the motion for the second reading of the Bible Beading iu Schools Bill. This debate is fully refined to in our loading arli-de. It is sutlieient to cay here that the bill was thrown out bv 50 to 18 votes.

The adjourned debate of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Uill was resumed by Mr Fergus, who stated Omt tbo sums given by the Government to ti;e entire support of hospitals during tiro year ending 1 sup,.St were—ln Auckland, HO.O'.iO; Napier, L)n72; New Plymouth, Ll(litf) ; Wellington, LbT-sd ; Nelson, LiiOliti ; Marlborntigh. Thus, it would lie seen that there was a groat disparity in (ho proportion of assistance, and that disparity was very much pi-eater in tbo distribution o! charitable aid. The distribution of charitable aid showed that in Auckland (lie amount • iv u to the population per head was oh; llav, i.
