This horse was bred by Mr Tancred, his present owner, who also owns his sire and dam. As a two-year-old Administrator commenced by running unplaced in the Sapling Stakes at Turatahi Carterton won by Eomp with I-irst Vv ati-r eicond, and Bamboo third.

A month later he turned the tables on Eomp and Bamboo by beating them easily in the Wairarapa Champagne Stakes. In this event be iiuished second to his stable companion first Mater. On the second day of this

m. ttiug he scored bis first wiu—a lucky one —by putting up Sst 101b and beating (Barry Lyndon (Mt 2ib), Twilight (7st bib), and five others in the Nursery Handicap. On this occasion he was riddeu by young Freeth, As a three-year-old Administrator carried cist 181b in the Wairarapa Cup and finished nowhere, the race being won by Whitau (7st I’-ibj, with Eore (Set Oib) second, and Waitangi (Tst 101b) third. At Wairarapa Autumn meeting be ran unplaced in the District Produce Stakes won by Twilight, First Water second, and Bamboo third, the time for the mile and a half, Derby weights, being 2min ■3B] see. At four years Mr Tancred’s roan commenced by winning two races at the Wairarapa Spring Meeting, viz., the Spring Ma iden Stake?, weight for age, beating Kopi, Te Whiti, and four others, and running the mile and a distance in 2min Stsec; and the County Handicap, one mile, in which he put up Sst Sib and won easily from Kopi ((Ist 101b), Eomp (7st), and three others. Time, Imiu 52|secs. At Taratabi-Carterton Administrator won the Birthday Cup, 7st 91b, two miles, beating Ninette (Sst 41b) and anuther with ease. Encouraged by these promising performances, Mr Tancred sent the colt to the Wellington Spring meeting to measure strides with rather better company than lie bad encountered at home. The experiment resulted successfully, for Administrator put up 7st ulb, and ran a dead heat with Sir George (Sst 111b) in the Eailway Handicap, and later on won the Flying Handicap right out. carrying Sst lib, and beating Treasurer post 11b), The Poet (Sat 101b), and two others, and running the sis furlongs in Imiu 20scc.“At Mastcrtou-Opaki he started with Übl in theOpuki Stakes, hut Mr Tancred declared to wu with First Water, and the roan was therefore unplaced. Going on to Martou, ho put up istdlbiu the Miirton-Eangitikci Handicap, and luui to be content with third place, the race being won by Eeonata (Sst 111b), with Bayard 1.7?t 12ib), seco-nd. At the Wellington Sumnmr meeting Administrator was third, (fist iib up) in thejJStewards’ Handicap won by Normanby (Tst), with Salvage (Sst 101b), sicond ; in me Eailway Handicap Mischief gave Inin o-t 2ib and a decisive beating ; and in the Consolation, with Tst up. bad to take ■ i.ird pirn-,.- behind Loch Lomond (Tst 71b), and Eelrigerator, (Tat -lib). A fortnight later these reverses were amply made up for at the M airarapa meeting. Administrator here won the Tauhereuik.au Stakes (Sst Ulb) from Glaicks (Tst), Ninette (Sst Ulb), and four others ; and the Cup (Sst 71b up,) in which he beat Ninette, (Sst 101b), First Water (Sst), and the field (Sst 91b), running the two miles in Bmin -ITseo. Clifford rode him in these three events. At Wanganui Administrator put up fist 101b and finished second to the Poet Tst 12) in the Cup, beating Normanby (Tst lib) and seven others ; and followed this up by pulling off the Consolation Stakes (Tst 101b), in which race he was ridden by Derritt. At Taranaki he carried Tst filb in the J. C. Handicap, and finished ft length astern of Normanby (Tst 31b) ; but on the second day won the Autumn Handicap, carrying Tst 101b, and doing the mile and a half in 2miu -13.1.5 sec. Voyaging as far north as Auckland for the Easter meeting, Administrator put up Tst 51b and ran a dead heat with Uidamt-s (fist) in the Erste. Handicap, two miles. 3miu 85] sec ; next day won the 1 lying Stakes (Sst 111b). heating Wapiti ("t tub) ; nnd (infilling up by running third l s st fill) up) to Witiora (Tst 101b) and Wapati (Sst 21b) in the Shorts Handicap. At PapaKura he was beaten for places in the Cup (Sst llib), but appropriated the Eailway Handicap, earring Sst Tib. At Cambridge he ran tuird (Sst lulb) to Normanby (Sst), and tisherman (Tst Sib) in the Cup, and second (Sst Sib to Normanby (Sst 51b) in the Publi- | cans’ Handicap.

As a five year-old Administrator began at tue Hawke s Bay Spring meeting by running unplaced in the Flying Handicap, carrying fist nib, and also unplaced in the Spring Handicap, -Sst up. lie, however, won the Consolation, carrying Bst 71b. At Wairarapa lie Wi,u the Birthday Cup (Dst 21b), and ran -s-rcmd with list 71b up to Pasha (7st 71b) in tne Spring Handicap. At the Wellington Jockey Club s Spring meeting Mr Tancted’a horse started with Set 71b in the J. C. Handicap and finished absolutely last, the race being won by Black Bose (7st 101b). At the Pacing C.ub s meeting he put up Bst 101b and • v ,| r the St Andrew’s Handicap .rather easily from Speculation (7st 01b), Armourer (7st) ■and three others, among them Minerva (hit odd, doing the mile and a-half in 2tuin -13 sec. this the roan horse was taken up to Auckland, where he was made a hot favourite *” r , the Cup.
